In case you missed the hype, Humane-a company founded by the Power Couple, Imran Chaudhri and Bethany Bongiorno, ex-Apple executives has come out with a standalone wearable device called the ” The Humane Ai Pin” aka AI- Pin.
the pin acts as a wearable AI assistant via projectors, cameras, and AI technology while looking like your regular cracker, almost invisible. Now, the company has presented the Ai Pin in all of its details during a Paris fashion show (Humane x Coperni) to highlight the device’s unique form factor. Supermodel Naomi Campbell is the first person outside of the company to wear the device in public, ahead of its full unveiling on November 9.
according to the startup, it is a “screenless, standalone device and software platform built from the ground up for AI.” It’s powered by an “advanced” Qualcomm Snapdragon platform and comes with a mini-projector, camera, and speaker in place of a smartphone screen. It can do services such as AI-powered visual recognition, but it is also said to be “privacy-first” due to features such as no wake word and no “always on” listening.
The mystery device has been in development for years, but we got our first close look at this year during co-founder Imran Chaudhri’s presentation at Ted Talk. During the presentation, he used the unnamed device to take a phone call, obtain information on where to buy a gift, translate a line that is then spoken in an AI-made version of his voice in French, and even get an opinion on whether he can eat a chocolate bar or not. It was an interesting display, still we have many questions about how it worked.
Other details are less apparent, such as how the device connects to the internet because it does not pair with a smartphone. Apart from the fact that it eliminates the need to carry one, it’s difficult to see the advantage over a standard smartphone. It’s also unclear how the features functioned, and you’d be correct to be cautious of any sophisticated tech demonstration.
Humane appears keen to highlight the device’s attractive character as it appears to be available in both black and white. However, this is still debatable. It’s difficult to compare to anything else because few wearables tie to clothing. The firm will also have to deal with the stigma of wearing a camera, even though the mini-projector is honestly cool. In any case, we’ll find out more when it’s officially revealed on November 9th.
However, as the device’s November 9th release date approaches, the shape of the Ai Pin becomes clearer. and experts are saying that the Ai Pin could cost up to $1,000 and may require a monthly data connection.
