When you know how to make a beautiful bed and do it on a daily basis you may bring more peacefulness into your life. How does that work exactly? Simple: a made bed brings order out of disorder.  And after a long, tiring day, no one wants to walk into a space meant to be an oasis of peace to sleep only to find a rumpled mess to clean up.

  1. Begin with the bed skirt.

Before heaping up the cushions and fussing with a fitted sheet, add a bed skirt.  You will not need to do this daily; it is a one-time task.  That’s a beautiful, effective linen screen that hides everything under the bed.

  1.  Take care of your mattress

A good night’s sleep begins with an excellent mattress. Protect your investment by covering it with a mattress pad or protector. If you’ve already covered that and aren’t in the market for a new mattress, a mattress topper, such as a feather bed, can help breathe new life. Again, this isn’t a process you’ll have to deal with every day, so once the mattress pad is on your bed, you can set it and forget it.

  1. Select your sheets.

Sink into linens that are comfortable to the touch and simple to care for. You’ll want fair-trade sheets made of natural fibers for maximum ventilation. Smooth the fitted sheet on your mattress and tuck the elastic corners tightly around the entire corner.  Next, bring your flat sheet over the bed, patterned side down, with the largest hem at the top. Finally, tuck the flat sheet in with hospital corners if desired. Or don’t. It is up to you.

4. Decide on a duvet cover for a pretty bed

Before you begin, shake out your duvet to ensure it is nice and fluffy. Wrap the duvet cover around the insert and place it on the bed. Fold aside the top of your duvet cover to show the reverse pattern for a designer touch–this is when you’ll be especially glad. And, if you’re using a duvet, you might as well do as the Europeans and skip the top sheet. A bedspread is an excellent linen to keep on hand as a summer linen or as an alternative for warmer climates. If you happen to prefer a layered look then you could surely use a lightweight bedspread as a coverlet.

  1. Soften your headboard with pillows.

If you want to know how to create a bed with pillows, it’s simple: put a few Euro shams in front of the headboard for a comfortable base and rich look. On the other hand, you can simply position two Euro shams in front of your ordinary pillows.

  1. Fluff your bed pillows.

Whether you sleep on your back, side or stomach, you will want attractive shams to cover your pillows. And with these gorgeous pillows, you’ll want to keep them above the covers rather than tucked beneath the duvet.

  1. Create a stunning bed with block print decorations.

Pretty pillows, also known as cushion covers, pillow covers, throw covers and accent pillows, deliver a powerful punch. Throw pillows are an easy way to add personality to your bed. These small linens are an easy and inexpensive way to vary the style of your decor from season to season.

  1. Simply commit.

Another unsaid Bed-making motto is to commit to making the bed every single day. Once you’ve attached the skirt, mattress protector, and fitted sheet, making your bed in the morning will take no time. Simply straighten your flat sheet, smooth the duvet and add a few pillows.  That’s it.
