How was your week? Today, I’m working on an effortless curtain makeover to give my room a fresh look. When the seasons change, I love updating the interior, and the easiest way to do that is by redecorating with new curtains or cushions. Not only do I choose designs based on the season, but I also switch between simple and bold patterns depending on my mood.
Sketching the Design for a Perfect Fit
Before I start, I always sketch the design to avoid major mistakes. Even if I have a plan in mind, drawing it out helps refine the details. I keep my fabric shelf near the work area for convenience, making it easier to access materials while working.
I found a long piece of fabric from an old blanket—perfect for ribbon curtains. For ironing, I prefer a wireless steam iron because it’s lightweight and easy to operate.

Cutting and Ironing for Precision
- The ribbon for the curtain is 4 cm and 75 cm wide.
- A wooden press iron is essential for securing the fabric after steaming.
- Pressing with wood enhances the effect of steam, allowing the fabric to stabilize as it cools.
This technique ensures wrinkle-free curtains and a polished look.

Sewing the Curtains Neatly
Choosing the right thread is fun! For this project, I used yellow thread to match the fabric.
At the beginning of sewing:
- Pull the thread forward 10 cm to prevent overlapping.
- Secure the starting thread neatly.
- Plug the curtain in with pins and add a wick for structure (though cotton curtains also look great without it).
I always cut off the extra fabric from the pulling part and give the hem a 10 cm fold, adding an extra 9 cm inside—just in case I move the curtains to another room in the future.

Final Touch: Hanging the Curtains
The distance from the ceiling to the rail ring is 3 cm, so I adjusted my measurements accordingly. Today’s sky is beautiful, inspiring me to mix and match curtains. Instead of using just one type, I also hung cotton embroidery curtains.
The result? A neat, stylish, and cozy space with a touch of creativity!

Conclusion
If you’re looking for an effortless way to refresh your space, try a curtain makeover. With a little planning, the right tools, and creative fabric choices, you can easily transform your home’s atmosphere.
