Morning Plant Care

When I wake up in the morning, I take care of my plants more than anything else. Today, I’d like to introduce you to my veranda.

Veranda Overview

My house isn’t an extension, so there’s a veranda in each room, including the living room. The veranda in the living room measures 358 cm wide and 145 cm long, about 1.5 pyeong. Previously, I used deco tiles, but this time, I decided to make a change.

Flooring Choices

I chose IKEA flooring for the new look. Initially, I considered a coil mat as the price difference was minimal. However, since the overall design is inspired by a rattan interior, I opted for the IKEA floor instead.

Past Experience with Coil Mats

I had worked with coil mats before while decorating a senior citizen center. Both coil mats and assembly floors are easy to install. Coil mats are simpler because they don’t require pattern matching, which reduces material loss.

Purchasing the Floor

I bought the flooring during IKEA’s summer sale, saving 5000 won per box. After calculating the required area, I purchased seven boxes but only used six. Fortunately, IKEA allows refunds within 365 days with a receipt, so I returned the unused box.

Assembling the Floor

Assembling the floor was straightforward. Initially, I used a rubber hammer but later found it easier to push and hit the pieces together. You can set the pattern in one direction or zigzag it. I chose a zigzag pattern, which required cutting some pieces to fit properly.

Cutting and Adjustments

Cutting the pieces to fit the zigzag pattern took extra effort. I removed sections from one side and adjusted others accordingly. If you prefer a clean look, assembling the floor in one direction might be easier. For best results, start with the most visible areas, as verandas often aren’t perfectly square.

Final Touches

After laying the floor, I finished the remaining spaces with white gravel. Adding artificial flowers and grass enhanced the look. I had previously used artificial turf on the porch, so this time I opted for gravel for a fresh finish.
