Today, I am going to start my Cozy Desk Makeover by decorating my cozy resting place—the desk. I want to give the interior a calm feeling in line with the changing season. This used table is a little old, and since all the wood furniture in the room is dark brown, I am going to adjust the tone through a simple makeover.
The chair was originally made of natural wood, but I recently reformed it, and I’m looking forward to a more harmonious color. I will also color the wall shelf to match. With one final cut, let’s start organizing.
Preparing for the Makeover
Before starting, I emptied the space, leaving only the dolls that bring peace to my daily life. Then, I gathered my supplies:
- Bondex Woodstain Acron Color
- Daiso Sponge Brush (which doesn’t leave brush marks, making it great for painting)
To be eco-friendly, I washed and reused a dried tofu container for the paint. Usually, it’s recommended to sand the table before painting so the wood stain can seep in properly. However, since my desk is already worn out and I can’t sand it in my current setup, I will apply the stain directly.
Painting & Staining the Furniture
To achieve the right depth of color, I applied thin layers of stain multiple times. The shelf, which wasn’t coated before, absorbed the stain immediately and smoothly. As evening approached, I continued painting until dawn, eager to see the final transformation.
Finally, the desk was complete! The rich new color perfectly complements my green curtains, setting a cozy and serene tone for my space.
Decorating the Desk & Shelves
Now, it’s time to decorate!
I hung a few more small shelves from DAISO, which frequently offers cute and affordable options. Instead of using nails, I secured them with simple pins. While pins are easy to install, they do leave small marks when removed. To stabilize the shelves, I placed air caps on the back, which helped improve balance.
Some of my favorite additions include:
- A cute artificial plant from IKEA – It brings a touch of nature to my workspace.
- OSAMU GOODS miniature figurines – These little collectibles make me smile.
- A book-shaped paper box from DAISO – Perfect for storing my handcrafted materials.
- An IKEA case – They frequently release stylish storage solutions.
Adding a Personal Touch
To make my space even cozier, I personalized it with:
- A new postcard for my frame – I chose an image from The Secret World of Arrietty.
- A self-made stuffed doll and a cute gacha toy – Small details that hold sentimental value.
- Bearbricks in calm colors – I haven’t seen them in a while, and now they add a nice aesthetic to my shelf.
- LP Stand from AliExpress – Displaying my vinyl collection is always fun, especially when opening new protective plastic covers.
One of my favorite LPs was chosen purely for its cat picture on the cover—a small but delightful detail that adds warmth to my space.
Final Thoughts
Having a beautiful and peaceful workspace makes a big difference in my daily life. When I feel overwhelmed, I pause and take a moment to admire this space filled with my favorite things. It’s a reminder that creating a cozy and inspiring atmosphere doesn’t require a big budget—just creativity and a love for personalization.
With my cozy desk makeover complete, I now have a space that feels truly mine.
