Best ways to clean tiles

Nowadays, tiles are the flooring of choice in nearly every house. They are commonly used in the kitchen, living room, bathroom, and Veranda. Tiles are an excellent method to convey the elegant appearance of a residence. But as time passes, they become dirty. Dirty tiles make a house appear unappealing. Additionally, it is unhygienic. Therefore, we occasionally need to clean the tiles.

Why do tiles get dirty?

Over time, the tiles acquire a coating of dirt that can stain them. They can also get discolored, which gradually diminishes the elegance of home decor.

Some of the most common reasons for tiles getting stains are:

  • Daily exposure to dust, dirt, and water.
  • Food spills like tea, coffee, etc.
  • Soap scum buildup from showering, mopping, etc.

General Types of tiles:

This article categorizes tiles into 3 types based on where they are used. We divided them into three categories due to the diverse types of stains they produce.

  1. Floor tiles
  2. Kitchen tiles
  3. Bathroom tiles

How to clean floor tiles?

Most types of tiles simply require a basic DIY mixture. Dish soap and water. Because chemical components like vinegar, baking soda, or commercial cleaning products damage tiles, we decided to omit them in the matter.

Material needed.

  • Warm water
  • Cleaning Soap
  • Clean cloth
  • Surface cleaner

First, dissolve the soap in warm water. The stains and dirt are easier to remove with warm water. Then, dip a clean cloth into the mixture. Afterward, wipe down the tiles. The residues should then be cleaned off with a fresh cloth and regular water.

For a deep clean, use the surface cleaner. You can use products like Trox, Vixol, and Harpic Floor Cleaner. First, spray the floor with surface cleaner. Keep it to remain there for 5–10 minutes. Then thoroughly mop the floor using a soaked cloth. For a better effect, use a scrubbing brush.

How to clean kitchen tiles?

Kitchen tiles are obstinate and difficult to clean because of cooking, which causes all the steam to stick to the wall tiles.

Materials needed.

  • Warm water
  • Vimber liquid
  • Scrubbing brush
  • Cloth

Start by boiling some water. Then thoroughly mix a sufficient amount of Vim liquid with the water. After that, spray the mixture onto the wall and scrape the tiles with a scrubbing brush. Continue until the wall is clean.

How to clean bathroom tiles?

Often after showering, some soup residue remains in the side wall and floor tiles. They eventually develop into stains that refuse to wash out with water.

Materials needed

  • Warm water
  • Any bathroom cleaner ( vixol/trox preferable)
  • Long & a short scrub brush

For the floor tiles, spray bathroom cleaner and wait for 3-5 mins. Then, use a long brush to scrape it. Then, spray water to wipe away the grime. Repeat this method once more.

For the tiles on the walls, mix the cleaner with water, spray it on, then scrape the surface with a brush. After that, wash everything with water.

How to clean the grouts ?

Grouts are the spaces between the tiles. They are the most difficult parts to clean. Reaching them is equally challenging. It has to be cleaned using warm water, cleaner, and a bristle brush. Spray the cleaner on the wall after mixing it with water. After that, scrub with the bristle. Make sure the cleaner is ph neutral. Otherwise, the grout might be damaged.

How to maintain tiles and grouts?

The tiles are fairly simple to maintain. Prevention is always preferable to cure. All you need to do is clean the tiles once a week, or if you don’t have the time, at least twice a month. If it is cleaned once a week, this simple process will do.

You may have to call a professional cleaner if the tiles stain is left for a long period. This is especially true when moving homes. The house is advised to be professionally cleaned, if possible, once a year.
