A Peek Inside Our Renovated 2LDK Apartment
My husband and I live in a renovated 2LDK apartment with a simple monochrome atmosphere. Our goal is to create a space that balances harmony with playfulness, allowing each element to express individuality while maintaining cohesion.
Dining & Living Room Transformation
Originally, this space was two separate rooms, but we removed the wall to create a more open and spacious area.
- Sofa: The “Mug Sofa” by HAY is at the center of the room. With a low backrest, it avoids visual clutter while providing a spacious, bed-like comfort—perfect for stretching out and relaxing.
- Bear Cushion: A playful touch from HIGUMA Donuts.
- TV Area:
- The Pierre Jeanneret-inspired chair is roomy, making it ideal for reading.
- A peanut stuffed animal from Ciccolata—a cherished piece from my college days—sits on the chair.
- A black side table from IKEA adds practicality.
- Cabinets from IKEA serve as a TV board, neatly aligning against the wall.
- Seasonal decor and fresh flowers bring warmth to the space.

Festive Touches & Unique Decor
With the holiday season here, we’ve added Christmas-themed decorations:
- A glass vase filled with ornaments.
- A rug from Slowdown Studio, featuring a dreamy, abstract design.
- Above, an artist’s mobile enhances the aesthetic.
- To the left of the TV board:
- A bird sculpture made of driftwood.
- A mysterious rock-like antique market find.
- A handmade paper mâché apple, crafted from layers of Japanese paper.
The walls feature works by AICON, known for creating 3D illusion artwork. Up close, curved lines form a striped pattern, but from afar, the image appears photographic.

Statement Lighting & Dining Area
- Lighting:
- The standout piece in our living room is the ‘AKARI’ lamp by Isamu Noguchi (Model 21A). It’s rare and was a lucky find!
- Dining Table & Seating:
- A solid wood dining table with a customized white sheet on the top plate.
- Seating is a mix of styles, including the Cesca Chair and Pierre Jeanneret-inspired reproductions.
- Storage & Display:
- The back shelf is ‘Pittara’ by Sanwa Company, custom-sized for our needs.
- It holds books, and office supplies, and doubles as a display shelf for decorative items.

Final Thoughts
Our home is a reflection of our aesthetic—a blend of modern, minimalist, and playful elements. Each piece has been carefully chosen, whether for function, sentiment, or artistic appeal. By incorporating unique furniture, thoughtful decor, and personal touches, we’ve created a space in our apartment that feels both stylish and welcoming.
