Store-bought room sprays come in lovely bottles and make our rooms smell great, but do you know what’s actually in them? Room sprays usually do not have an ingredient list, and those that do contain unclear terms such as “odor eliminator,” “propellants,” and “solvents.” What Fortunately! I have a homemade essential oil Room sprays recipe with three simple ingredients. You can make it in under a minute.

Let’s talk about bathroom smells. Not the most pleasant subject in the world, but we all know what I’m talking about. While aerosol sprays, plug-ins, and perfume can mask odors, their ingredients are often vague. Instead, try this homemade essential oil room spray made with only three simple ingredients.

Here is the list you Need to Make Homemade Room Spray with Essential Oils

The Ingredients Which You Need

Ø  Vodka: The vodka helps to disperse the essential oil throughout the room spray. Because water and oil do not mix, if you like an alcohol-free room spray, replace Thayer’s witch hazel for the vodka; however, witch hazel has a scent that may be noticeable in the room spray.

Ø  Distilled Water: I highly recommend using purified water rather than tap water because tap water contains natural impurities that can cause bacteria growth over time.

Ø  Essential Oils: Essential oils are commonly used in aromatherapy, a type of alternative medicine that uses plant extracts to promote health and well-being.

EQUIPMENT REQUIRED TO MAKE AN ESSENTIAL OIL ROOM SPRAY.

1.         Glass Measuring Cup;

2.         4 Oz Glass Spray Bottle- When using essential oils, it is always best to use glass containers because some essential oils can be eaten through plastic.

How to make a room spray using essential oils

In a glass measuring cup, combine 1 ounce of vodka and 15 drops of essential oil*. The following are some of my most liked essential oil combinations for use throughout the year.

During the winter, I enjoy combining cinnamon (4-5 drops), orange (6 drops), and spruce (4-5 drops). This combination produces a warm, spicy scent, ideal for cold winter days when you need a cozy atmosphere. Alternatively, you can create a blend using these three oils.

Try a blend of Lemon, Lavender, and Peppermint (5 drops each) or Grapefruit, Lavender, and cedar wood during summer.

Just a note: Citrus oils have a mild scent and may not be visible in the room spray. Combining citrus oils with other essential oils tends to enhance their scent.

I link to essential oil brands that I believe provide high-quality oils and are transparent about their testing (for example, the company publicly discloses GC/MS results). I also try to link to the essential oil that will give you the “biggest bang for your buck” (buying a 30ml bottle of oil often means more savings per ml than buying a 10ml bottle). I provide more information on where to buy essential oils so that you can select the brand that you believe is best for you.

After mixing the vodka and essential oils, add 3 oz. of distilled water (not tap water) and stir to combine. Simply put the mixture into a glass spray bottle and you are finished.

When you’re ready to use the room spray, shake it lightly and spritz it into the air. You’ll notice the pleasant scent of whichever essential oil combination you choose.
